HABITAT
Bilbao, Spain | 2022 | Completed
Habitat is a 3D-printed modular system made from clay, designed to enhance urban environments by supporting diverse species of flora and fauna. The sculptural system addresses critical urban challenges such as biodiversity loss and rising temperatures, both exacerbated by the scarcity of green spaces and a lack of empathy towards non-human life forms. By transforming underutilized city spaces, Habitat creates thriving environments that provide essential resources for urban wildlife.
The system incorporates planters that support the growth of a variety of plants, offering nourishment for wildlife. Integrated water collection and distribution systems provide clean, fresh water, while the modular design forms self-shaded surfaces and alcoves that serve as shelter.
Each installation is carefully tailored to its environment through location-specific analysis, which takes into account local climate conditions and the needs of target species. This ensures that the modules are optimally placed to maximize their positive impact on biodiversity, creating an ecosystem that blends seamlessly with its urban surroundings.
