JOHN & CO
Cairo, Egypt | 2024 | Completed
John & Co’s new flagship store in Cairo’s 'The Yard' mall reimagines the retail experience through a bold fusion of design innovation and brand identity. The space is defined by a monochromatic palette that reflects the brand’s aesthetic, enhanced by a thoughtful interplay of textures. These textures transition gradually from soft to hard, while the color scheme shifts from light to dark, creating a dynamic visual progression throughout the store.
The store is composed of three distinct zones, each with its own tonal and textural characteristics. At the heart of the design is a 45-degree angled walls, which transform into a stepped ceiling that lowers as one moves deeper into the space. This subtle architectural gesture creates the illusion of a narrowing tunnel, inviting visitors to explore further and drawing the attention of passersby with its unexpected form. The 45-degree angle influences the directionality of every element in the store, giving the space a cohesive and striking aesthetic.
As customers navigate the space, they encounter hidden merchandise tucked behind the angled walls, visible only upon deeper exploration or through a strategically placed mirror at the rear of the shop. This design element not only elevates the shopping experience but also encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the space, discovering new products as they move through the store.
The layout is intentionally designed to reveal itself gradually, creating a sense of intrigue and discovery. Customers are lured into the space, enticed by what is unseen at first glance, and are guided through a carefully curated retail journey that unfolds with each step.
